Irish Setters are racy and athletic dogs. Distinguished with a kindly expression, it is their beautiful red coat that catches the eye, but their harmonious forms, build and style that holds it. They inspire devotion, too, as a lively, intelligent, energetic, affectionate and loyal breed.

Irish Setters were developed in their native country for hunting purposes from the Irish Red and White Setter and an unnamed solid red dog. The type was clearly identifiable in the 18th century. The club was formed in 1882, publishing the standard four years later, and has hosted field trials and shows ever since.

The solid red variety started to appear alongside the red and white variety in Ireland at the end of the 19th century. A special club was formed in 1882 and has not looked back since, prioritizing the right blend of elegance and the qualities of a versatile pointer.
