Harriers have character in spades. A quick study, enterprising and always at the top of their game, they are happy to hunt large game, like wild boar and roebucks on hilly terrain.
Expressive, moderately broad.
Straight, muscular back, strong, slightly domed loins, deeper than broader chest, rather flat ribs.
Typically white with all shades of black to orange, but also tricolor with black mantle covering the upper back.
V shaped, almost flat, turned slightly, fairly short, set rather high.
Medium length, a little bushy, well carried.
Smooth in the English style, meaning flat and not too short.
Harriers are members of the very old English family of hounds that include the very popular Beagle. Some sources state that the first Harrier packs were put together in the 18th century, but what is beyond doubt is that there are now many Harrier packs specialized in hares and foxes in Britain. They are prized as very keen hunters, able to take any species, from hare to fox, thanks to their speed and fine nose. Sometimes they are even used to catch other game animals.
