Artois Hounds are medium-sized dogs that are nowadays especially used in hunting with guns. These industrious hounds, not so fast, but capable of sustaining their pace, drive the game towards the firing line by closely following the scent, with their very good noses. A pack of six to eight well matched Artois Hounds will perform to the satisfaction of even the most demanding huntsman. Vigorous and hardy, well balanced and affectionate.

After World War II, it was thought that the Artois Hound had disappeared as a breed forever, but thanks to the work of a certain Mr Audréchy in the Somme, northern France, the stock was reconstituted in the 1970s. These well built, muscular dogs give the impression of strength and energy. Artois Hounds are hardy animals with a wonderfully stirring, high voice, which can be heard at great distances.

Did you know ?

Artois Hounds are able to outwit hares in open country; in the forest they are more than a match for roe, while they have the boldness and bravura to drive out even the most stubborn of wild boars from the thickets.
